Project 2020

Your invitation to welcome young designers to make their mark on the professional clothing industry.

We are inviting students from leading fashion and textiles universities up and down the UK to create their vision of professional clothing (corporatewear, workwear or PPE) for the future, the year 2020. We're after forward thinking fresh design, innovative use of fabric and creative flair to showcase the potential or emerging young talent in our industry. Finalists and winners will showcase their designs on a live catwalk to the who’s who of the professional clothing industry for a black tie gala event taking place in June 2020.

Dear Lecturers, Tutors and Students,
Nurturing young talent in the fashion and design world is once again top of our agenda here at the Professional Clothing Show and Awards, as we extend a formal invitation for your students to join us by entering our Project 20/20 Design Awards. The quest is on to find the best fresh young designers ready to make their mark on the professional clothing industry.

The Project 20/20 Design Awards is a national competition open to students at universities up and down the country studying fashion, textiles and design. This year’s event requires students to imagine the future and create their visions of professional clothing (corporatewear, workwear and PPE) for the Year 2020.

We're excited to offer a new award category with the support of INVISTA’s CORDURA® brand. Stylish, hardworking CORDURA® fabrics are used by many leading workwear manufacturers around the world. And the CORDURA® Durable Design Award, part of the Project 20/20 Design Awards challenges students to integrate fabric functionality and commercial viability into their design entry.

First run in 2020 as the Young Designer Award, Project 20/20 Design Awards offers the finalists a chance to attend the Professional Clothing Awards black tie gala dinner where winners are announced and have their designs showcased on live models at the Professional Clothing Show, cash prizes and the chance to meet key people in the professional clothing industry. Our previous student competition attracted over 35 entries, with the wider awards attracting entries from more than 130 companies worldwide.

Winners from our 2020 Young Designers Award have gone on to secure permanent positions such as employment in a prominent tailoring establishment on Saville Row, London and designing for one of the upcoming luxury boutique uniform design companies in our industry.

Due to popular demand, the interest and support of our industry in welcoming these young designers to bring their ideas and fresh thinking into the professional clothing industry has led to the inclusion of the Project 20/20 Design Awards in the biennial Professional Clothing Awards 2020.

We are supported in these awards by many companies, including CORDURA® fabric, who share our passion and desire to celebrate the ideas of the new generation. We do hope you too will consider working with us by sharing this fantastic opportunity with your students.

This year we are opening up entries to many more universities and we welcome you to consider adding the competition into your 2020/16 syllabus. The competition is due to be judged in early March 2020, with the awards to be held in June concurrently with the Professional Clothing Show.

We will be in touch soon with more information on the finer details but would love to hear your thoughts. Please do contact me on the below contact details to register your interest for what is sure to be a fantastic 2020 competition.

Kind Regards
